The Seattle Seahawks organization is under scrutiny from all areas, because it was mentioned that they did not honor the Rooney Rule by interviewing a minority for their head coaching job before making a decision.
Speaking after new coach Pete Carroll was introduced, Seahawks’ chief executive Tod Leiweke said he offered the team’s president position to Tony Dungy.
Leiweke is unhappy with the criticism that he was not genuine in his interview process before hiring former USC coach Carroll. He said Dungy was offered the position, but the former head coach of the Indianapolis Colts and Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach was not the only one he interviewed.
Leiweke said that Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier was interviewed for the position, saying that their interview last four hours. After that they both watched the playoffs game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Seahawks are not the only ones to have hired a coach abruptly. It seems the Washington Redskins had already hired Mike Shanahan even before the season was over, hence not following the Rooney Rule as well.
