NFC East Week 7 Preview: Eagles, Redskins, and Giants look to bounce back after tough weekSubmitted by admin on October 23, 2009 - 12:03pm |
It was a down week for the teams in the NFC East as the New York Giants finally suffered their first lost of the season, the Philadelphia Eagles lost to the lowly Raiders, and the Washington Redskins keep playing like one of the worst teams in football as they went down to Kansas City.
There’s no reason to give up on the Giants by any means, but they’re not quite the dominant, best team in football that they were hyped up to be. Even they couldn’t slow down Drew Brees as he and the Saints torched New York’s defense for seven total touchdowns. Eli Manning had his first bad game of the season which allowed the Giants to give some reps to backup David Carr who looked impressive.
As far as the Eagles are concerned, I knew this team wasn’t that good, but that’s entirely different than losing to the Raiders. Philadelphia couldn’t get the offense going all game, and though they didn’t make any big mistakes they weren’t able to find the end zone.
Michael Vick is officially listed at No. 2 on the depth chart, and it looks at this point that the Eagles are going to use him primarily as a backup quarterback. Given the way Donovan McNabb’s been playing however, it wouldn’t surprise me if he got more reps soon either way.
The Redskins are just absolutely terrible, enough said. Jason Campbell got booted from the game in favor of 37-year old Todd Collins, and the offense still doesn’t seem to know what to do with itself once it gets into the red zone. It was a sloppy game last Sunday between two terrible teams; how long until the fire Jim Zorn chants start?
The Dallas Cowboys had a much needed bye week but are right back in the action with a big game Week 7.
In a big showcase of title contender or pretender, Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons head to big D to take on the Cowboys. The Falcons should be able to put up some points in this game, but then again Tony Romo should be on top of his game after the extra week of rest. Until he proves though that he can beat a good team, I just can’t put any faith in Romo and the ‘Boys. Atlanta takes this one on the road in a shootout. Atlanta 38, Dallas 28.
The New York Giants have to quickly rebound as they welcome the defending NFC champion Arizona Cardinals to the Meadowlands. The lack of a good ground game should hurt the Cardinals in this game as the Giants should be able to get a lot of pressure on Kurt Warner and force him into making some bad throws. New York has a chance to climb back up in the power rankings with a dominant performance on both sides of the ball. New York 31, Arizona 21.
And finally in the first bad Monday Night Football game of the season, the Philadelphia Eagles take on the Washington Redskins. This will be the first game for the ‘Skins without head coach Jim Zorn calling the plays. Despite being benched last week, Jason Campbell is reported to be the starter for this game, and the Philly defense should have a field day with him much like they did Week 1 with Jake Delhomme. As far as this Eagles team is concerned, this will be the last easy game for them for awhile. They should take this one easy, but look for some big notches chalked up in the loss column soon. Philadelphia 30, Washington 13.
