Unfortunately for the Miami Dolphins, their quarterback Chad Pennington apparently dislocated his shoulder on Sunday and according to ESPN, he will be out for the remainder of the season.
Pennington, who sustained the injury during the Dolphins 23-13 Sunday loss to the San Diego Chargers might be going under the knife for the third time since 2005 if reports are accurate on the status of his injury.
According to the Associated Press, a person who was familiar with Pennington’s current injury stated that the Dolphins QB had indeed dislocated his right shoulder.
The former New York Jets quarterback, who had some tests done on Monday, is reportedly seeking a second opinion to determine how long he will be out and hopefully not for the rest of the season as projected and report by ESPN. According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, Pennington will get that second opinion from Dr. James Andrews.
Because the Dolphins have yet to discuss in detail Pennington’s injury, the AP’s source would rather remain anonymous. And though it has been a poor start for Miami unlike last season, Pennington’s injury makes things worse.
With backup Chad Henne finishing Sunday’s game against the Chargers, the team must now rally behind their young QB, a former Michigan Wolverine to carry the load in Week 4, in their home game against the Buffalo Bills.
But with Henne as the potential starter and rookie Pat White moving up to back Henne up, confidence might be low in Miami right now, unless the team signs a veteran quarterback to at least support their young QB’s.
Who will they find to come in as backup or probably start immediately? Dolphins honcho Bill Parcells is probably discussing this issue with head coach Tony Sparano as we speak.
Obviously the team has some confidence in Henne, their second-year QB, but with their 0-3 start, Miami fans will be demanding more.
