Chicago Bears is known for its great defense and with defensive tackle Tommie Harris apologizing a day after he punched Arizona Cardinals guard Deuce Lutui, once he left the field Chicago winning was doubtful.
Harris was ejected from the game for that unfortunate action in the Bears 41-21 loss to the Cardinals.
With just 1:05 into the game, Harris was ejected for his punch.
“Yes, I felt like I hurt my team,” Harris told the Chicago Tribune.
He not only hurt his team as the Bears were humiliated at home, Harris said he felt embarrassed at what he did and they thought of what fans and others would think of him after they saw what he did.
That Harris has apologized is a step in the right direction. He was part of the problems that did cost his team a game, but his apology and remorse for his actions, shows he is a better person than he displayed on Sunday.
“I just want to apologize to my fans, first off [and] the little kids out there that saw that action that I behaved in that manner,” Harris said. “I apologize to my teammates. ... I’ll make up for it.”
The only way Harris can make up for it with Chicago fans is helping the team to a winning record and the postseason. Defensively, the Bears looked poor against Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner who threw five touchdown passes in that game.
Harris said after everything, he personally apologized to Lutui; he didn’t ask anyone else to convey his message, he did it himself.
