Chicago Bears and San Francisco 49ers look to revive season on Thursday nightSubmitted by admin on November 12, 2009 - 11:24am |
As NFL Network kicks off their coverage of NFL games on Thursday night, two teams will be on display that desperately need to get back to winning.
The Chicago Bears started this season with high hopes after adding quarterback Jay Cutler to the team via trade, but so far, a 4-4 record wasn’t exactly what the Bears were expecting. For a long time, the talk in Chicago had been that the team was only a franchise quarterback away from getting back to the Super Bowl and winning, but that has not proven to be true.
In San Francisco, things seemed to be running very smoothly early on, but as of late, the 49ers have not been able to get back on track. Wide receiver Michael Crabtree is in the rotation, but with him on the field, the 49ers have yet to win a game. Crabtree hasn’t come away with any touchdowns, but he has caught 14 passes for 167 yards.
With a record of 3-5, this season has definitely turned the wrong direction for the 49ers after starting the season at 3-1.
For Chicago, this would be the best time to get back on the winning side of things as their schedule still holds some very tough opponents. The Bears still have to play the Minnesota Vikings twice, play the Baltimore Ravens in Baltimore, and face the Philadelphia Eagles.
Those could all easily be losses if the Bears don’t turn things around quickly.
On the other side of the coin, the 49ers have the luxury of playing in the weak NFC West and currently sit in second place in the division behind the Arizona Cardinals. Some of the teams remaining for the 49ers are the Detroit Lions, St. Louis Rams, Seattle Seahawks, and Jacksonville Jaguars.
Not exactly the toughest schedule in the league.
If the 49ers turn things around against the Bears it could spark a push at the NFC West division crown and possibly save the career of newly anointed starting quarterback Alex Smith.
Although a win tonight for the 49ers holds more hope for the rest of the season than a win for the Chicago Bears, it never hurts to tally a few more wins than losses even if it won’t get you to the playoffs.
