Broncos owner Pat Bowlen says Jay Cutler will be traded from Denver

What we had all expected is finally happening as the Denver Broncos owner Pat Bowlen has expressed his frustration at quarterback Jay Cutler’s inability to communicate and in the process the team will begin the process of shipping Cutler out of town.

NFL.com and the Denver Post are both reporting that Broncos owner Bowlen is frustrated with Cutler who has not returned his calls and even when new head coach Josh McDaniels said that Cutler was their quarterback, the team had not heard from the disgruntled player.

With the issue unresolved between Cutler and McDaniels and with this dragging on for more than a month, Bowlen decided to a trade would be in the organization's bet interest and he released the following statement Tuesday:

“Numerous attempts to contact Jay Cutler in the last 10 days, both by Head Coach Josh McDaniels and myself, have been unsuccessful. A conversation with his agent earlier today clearly communicated and confirmed to us that Jay no longer has any desire to play for the Denver Broncos. We will begin discussions with other teams in an effort to accommodate his request to be traded.”

The fallout between both parties began in February when it was initially rumored that the Broncos entertained the thoughts of trading Cutler for Matt Cassel. The rumor was later confirmed to be true as McDaniels was reported to have talked about a possible deal that would have reunited him with Cassel and shipped Cutler out of town.

McDaniels and Cassel had a working relationship when both were with the New England Patriots and the coach entertained the idea of having Cassel who filled in for the Patriots Tom Brady from the season opener of the 2008 NFL regular season.

Cutler was enraged that the team wanted to trade him for Cassel and on March 15th, formally submitted a trade request. Cutler felt betrayed that he was part of the trade proposal that would have sent him to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Cassel to Denver.

With the drama brewing in the Mile High City, teams have expressed interest and expect the Chicago Bears, the Buccaneers, the New York Jets, Minnesota Vikings and the Detroit Lions to start dialing the Denver area code from Tuesday night.

Most of the NFL teams that would show interest in Cutler are in dire need of a quarterback. The Cleveland Browns might jump into the mix with Derek Anderson or Brady Quinn as trade options for new head coach Eric Mangini.

Will the Lions have the best offer as they own the No. 1 overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft? What team will propose the best offer to the Broncos as we draw closer to draft day?
