2009 NFL Training Camp Preview: Buffalo BillsSubmitted by admin on July 24, 2009 - 3:31pm |
As the Buffalo Bills get ready to enter training camp, all eyes will be focused in on Terrell Owens.
Owens made a big splash when he arrived in Buffalo, and now that all the buzz has simmered down, the actual football part of playing in the NFL is ready to take place. Owens needs to show that he can still be an elite receiver in the league and there is no better way to do that than by showing us, rather than telling us.
The most important aspect of training camp for the Bills will be gelling as a team with the addition of Owens and other new players as well as adjusting to the loss of some key players such as Pro Bowl left tackle Jason Peters.
Chemistry is going to be the key for the Bills and this is the perfect time to build it. Once the season starts, the Bills should want to be a cohesive unit, but it still may take them a couple games into the season for the chemistry to show.
Offensively, the Bills have quite a few weapons to use against its’ AFC East opponents. Once running back Marshawn Lynch returns from his absence, you will have a dominate running back carrying the ball. If quarterback Trent Edwards can keep T.O. and Lee Evans happy, the Bills will definitely be exciting to watch.
The offensive line for the Bills must come together very quickly and be able to protect Edwards as well as help in the running game. There are a lot of people on the offensive line changing positions, such as right tackle Langston Walker flipping over to the other side and Geoff Hangartner being the new center.
If everyone adjusts, the new no-huddle style offense the Bills will be running should be exciting for both the players and the fans.
Defensively, the defensive line will be unit to watch in this training camp. Pro Bowl defensive lineman Aaron Schobel is coming off foot surgery and rookie pass-rusher Aaron Maybin is unproven in the NFL.
John McCargo will have to finally show up for the Bills if the team wants to have defensive success. If not, the Bills will need a dark horse candidate to emerge and take control on the line. The Bills must come out of camp confident that they can rush the passer and get sacks in order to have a successful defense.
While T.O. will definitely be the figure seen in the media as camp begins, be sure to see through that and keep your eyes focused on the defensive line of the Bills. They will be the key to the team making it back to the playoffs.
