Dallas Mavericks guard Jason Kidd to visit with the New York Knicks

At age 36, Jason Kidd is swimming against the currents of time. Despite the wears and tears of age, the 15-year vet led the Dallas Mavericks into the playoffs, but came up short against the Denver Nuggets.

Now, Kidd is facing free-agency. The Mavericks will probably sign him considering that the point-guard gave their team a huge boost in confidence and experience. Kidd is a proven starter with a gold medal record and if the Mavericks want to make the postseason again, they had better re-sign him.

If Dallas fails to pull the trigger and end up letting Kidd go, he won’t have to wait long. Kidd’s high level of play attracted the attention of many around the league, especially the New York Knicks.

According to the New York Daily News, Kidd is scheduled to sit down with the Knicks on Wednesday. Gaining Kidd would not be an infusion of new blood, but it would definitely be a big upgrade. Currently the Knicks starting point guard is Chris Duhon, who averaged 7.2 assists and 11.1 points last season.

Kidd averaged 8.7 assists and 9 points, but beyond these stats, Kidd is the better guard with the experience to lead teams down the postseason. The Knicks could pick up Kidd who has ties to the New York area. Kidd played for the New Jersey Nets before being traded to Dallas and has an offseason home there.

Adding Kidd to their roster would not do much for the Knicks, but it would give them some star power in recruiting Lebron James next summer. The Knicks are looking to re-sign Nate Robinson and David Lee but they will need boat-loads of money to reel in the big fish. Knicks’ president Donnie Walsh is looking to recruit the King and needs to attract the superstar. Walsh said that “I’m always looking at 2010 because I do want to be in the free-agent market in a big way.”

Any way you look at it, Kidd will lead a team down to another postseason. The question is will it be with Dirk or LBJ?
