As New Orleans Saints running back Reggie Bush begins training camp, he is now ready to put the controversy surrounding his playing days at USC behind him.

"I like to think that I'm pretty mentally tough and I never allow any outside distraction to affect me on the football field," Bush said Saturday as the Saints went through their second day of training camp. "Once I step on the field, it's all football. I try to remember that every time I step on this field.

After recently departing the front office of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Doug Williams has now found a new home. On Tuesday it was announced that Williams will serve as the general manger of United Football league’s new expansion team in Norfolk, Va.

"For me, it'd be a blessing," Williams, MVP of Super Bowl XXII with the Washington Redskins, told the Newport News' Daily Press. "The only thing I'd ask for is for the community to come and support their team."

Offseason training has once again begun in the NFL, but noticeably absent from a lot of teams workouts are the players. Many players choose to skip the voluntary offseason workouts each year, and this year with a lockout looming many restricted free agents aren’t showing out of uncertainty with the team.

Pro Football Hall of Famer Merlin Olsen has died at age 69. Olsen was a defensive lineman that was part of the Los Angeles Rams’ “Fearsome Foursome” in the 1960’s. Olsen passed away after a long battle with cancer.

"This was the voice of a man who not only became one of our country's most decorated athletes, but also one of the most accomplished and respected people ever to hail from the state of Utah," said Stan Albrecht, president of Utah State.
