The Washington Redskins made substantial moves in the offseason and with owner Dan Snyder stepping back and letting his employees do their jobs, things seem to be on the way up for the franchise.

As New Orleans Saints running back Reggie Bush begins training camp, he is now ready to put the controversy surrounding his playing days at USC behind him.

"I like to think that I'm pretty mentally tough and I never allow any outside distraction to affect me on the football field," Bush said Saturday as the Saints went through their second day of training camp. "Once I step on the field, it's all football. I try to remember that every time I step on this field.

I don’t hold this extreme position because I’m an Eagles fan. And judging from the Philly fans I know, that wouldn’t make a difference considering they all want to chase him out of town like a scene out of a black-and-white 1950’s monster movie.

Now, the Denver Broncos, who have been less than impressive when it comes to player relations the past few years, decided they would have Jason Elam retire as a Bronco.

Offseason training has once again begun in the NFL, but noticeably absent from a lot of teams workouts are the players. Many players choose to skip the voluntary offseason workouts each year, and this year with a lockout looming many restricted free agents aren’t showing out of uncertainty with the team.

The much anticipated return of Tiger Woods to competitive golf finally has a date set and it will be April 8 at the Masters.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Woods declared that he would return from his leave of absence at Augusta National Golf Club. Woods has never missed the year’s first major as a professional golfer.

"The Masters is where I won my first major and I view this tournament with great respect. After a long and necessary time away from the game, I feel like I'm ready to start my season at Augusta," Woods said in a statement.

As Washington Wizards’ guard Gilbert Arenas prepares to be sentenced next week in his case where he pleaded guilty to a felony gun charge in January, Arenas says that he deserves to be punished for his actions.

The suspended Washington Wizards guard told Esquire magazine that he wasn't using "longevity thinking" when he took out four guns in what he says was an attempt to play a prank on teammate Javaris Crittenton in December.

Pro Football Hall of Famer Merlin Olsen has died at age 69. Olsen was a defensive lineman that was part of the Los Angeles Rams’ “Fearsome Foursome” in the 1960’s. Olsen passed away after a long battle with cancer.

"This was the voice of a man who not only became one of our country's most decorated athletes, but also one of the most accomplished and respected people ever to hail from the state of Utah," said Stan Albrecht, president of Utah State.

The Baltimore Ravens continue to bolster their passing attack, this time re-signing two-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Derrick Mason.

Mason and the Ravens agreed on a two-year deal that is reported to be worth $8 million, with $3.5 million coming in the first year. Mason originally joined the Ravens in 2005 and with this new deal, he is likely to finish his career in Baltimore.

One time great Olympic sprinter Marion Jones will now have a chance to prove her greatness in a sport she used to play in college. On Wednesday, Jones signed with the WNBA’s Tulsa Shock.

"The word redemption is not in my vocabulary," Jones said at a news conference, flanked by team president Steve Swetoha and coach Nolan Richardson. "I'm a competitor, I want to play against the best in the world, and I know that I will be doing that."
